Were DD M4 Tanks Rear driven instead of front driven due to twin Props.?

I wondered seeing the twin propellers moved with rear axle did this make these DD Shermans different from normal era Shermans tanks that were front driven. Did DD shermans still have final drive cover without its insides or more modern style front Hull/body like in later M4 Variants. I don't know all that much about Shermans cheers John

All tracked vehicles (that were successfully fielded) used front axle drives, because a rear axle drive for the tracks created HUGE problems with the track staying on the road wheels and guides. The only way to combat this was to use front axle drive and "pull" the track toward the power-supplier rather than "pushing" it away.

And it was just a clutched system that was engaged to supply power/torque to the props.
