What should I expect on the SSI scuba test?
what questions, what to know a lot about, anything else that can help me since the test is tomorrow! thanks
If the SSI test is anything like the PADI OWD exam, there won't be anything in the test that hasn't already been covered by the course (you did read the book and do the quizzes, right?). And even if you get a few wrong, the instructor will just go through it with you again until you understand.
PADI use a multi-choice paper, and the 'wrong' answers to each question are mostly pretty obvious, provided you've been paying attention to your pool and theory lessons, e.g. "What should you do if you see a shark? A. Run away. B. Chase it. C. Feed it. D. Watch it to see what it does" (I may be exaggerating somewhat, but most of the questions really are that easy*)
Seriously though, in my experience (admittedly limited to people on 4-day holiday courses, who didn't want to spend their evenings studying), students usually have the greatest difficulty with the more abstract stuff about dive planning and using the dive planning tables. But so long as you understand the basic theory regarding nitrogen absorption and release, and WHY you need to plan dives, you should be OK. The rest is just common sense
Don't worry too much about it. You learn to dive in the water, not the classroom--if you've got no problems in the pool/on the dives, you're as good as qualified. Just relax, and you'll be fine. Have fun.
*The correct answer here was 'D'. But you knew that already, right?

Scuba Dive With SSI
Is SSI or PADI scuba diving certification better?
I am going to get my scuba certification, and I notice that some schools give PADI certifications and others SSI. What is the difference? Which is better? Thank you.
Doug's correct in that neither training agency is really "better" than the other and that it really boils down to the calibre of the instructors and the quality of the individual dive shops.
You also aren't stuck with the agency you start with either. It's quite possible to start with one agency and do some courses with another as they don't all offer the same courses. SSI, for example, offers a solo certification, which PADI doesn't. You could train PADI partly up the ladder and then do a SSI or IANTD cert or vice versa.
When it comes to any of the agencies being better, there is one that comes to mind, but you don't list it, nor if you live in the States, will you get to train with it and that's BSAC. The curriculum is a little more advanced and the practical is too, but that's simply because it's an agency (club really) that has developed a training syllabus to match the diving conditions prevalent in the waters surrounding the UK. Their Open water divers tend to be better trained than any of the other agencies Open Water divers. I'm PADI, but was fortunate enough to have had my rescue taught by a visiting BSAC/ PADI instructor. My cert for it is PADI but he went a little above and beyond a traditional PADI Rescue cert in his instruction.

lol…that is funny!!! I have not read that one before!!
hahahahaha…I will have to share this with our 1 certified diver for our county…he will get a huge chuckle out of this one…
God Bless
