Single Gauge Hose

Why is my Ford Escort car overheating?
It hasn't overheated as such YET (i.e. started spewing steam) but it gets to the red on the temp. gauge very quickly. The top hose is hot but the bottom (and expansion) hose is cold. The radiator is also cold.
What does this mean? It isn't losing coolant and i don't believe it's the thermostat based on what I've written above. The fan also works.
The symptoms occured during a single journey (the temp gauge had never been anywhere near the red before).
change the engine coolant thermostat. You can just remove it altogether in an emergency to get back on the road. It's under the bell shaped housing where the big top radiator hose connects to the engine.

What equipment is needed to pull a vacuum on a R-410a split air conditioner system?
I took a class a while back on a/c to be certified to handle refrigerant, but cant remember the names of the tools i need. I would like to know specific names of the fittings, hoses, and vacuum pump to connect to a 2ton mini split air conditioning system. The one i speak of is pre-charged with R410a refrigerant, and has a bike valve type fitting, which i believe is where i connect the vacuum pump to pull a vacuum. Im looking for the cheapest most basic setup to get me going... i probably dont even need to look at a gauge, but a single vacuum gauge would be a help... What do i need????
wow, can you please read what i wrote. i am certified, it was not much of a challenge at all. i can handle refrigerant and buy sell what i need. how about giving me a valid answer. what kind of manifold set, adapters for r410a, and vacuum pump... thanks to the people who read it all!!
Sorry, but if you are not certified to do this kind of work you could not only damage your system, but release refrigerant into the atmosphere, which as you know is illegal. Best leave this to a professional. Just so you know, you will need at least two gages.
