Basic Adventure Travel Check List
Many of us plan a vacation on a sunny beach to soothe ourselves. We prefer to take a break from our busy schedules and go for a trip to relax. However, there are others who prefer some adrenaline rush. These adventure travelers are always in search of places to explore. Scuba diving, snorkeling, mountain climbing and skiing are few chosen sports.
If this sounds like you, if you dart out the door for things to do even before the bags have been unpacked, then read on! Here are a few important points to keep in mind prior to taking your next adventure trip to Sumatra with only a duffle bag.
Gather Information:
To avoid adventure-gone-bad, it is a good idea to know about the place in detail. Familiarize yourself with the country, geography, customs, best time to travel, language, visa requirements and other facts. Learn about what exactly you will be doing. In fact, one can never go wrong with an over load of information. The first source is very obvious- Internet. Travel websites and forums are buzzing with first hand experiences. Don’t hesitate to call friends, family and colleagues for friendly tips, tales of caution and absolutely no-no.
Pack the Necessary Equipment:
Many travelers forget to pack the things required while in an adventure trip. For example some may forget to take a camera or forget to take their own skis while visiting Alps for skiing. In such situations, you will end up spending a lot more money to buy a new camera or rent skis from the resort. To avoid such situations you should always remember to take all the necessary equipments when you plan for a trip.
Take Utmost Care:
Life is a precious gift and one should always be careful. It is advised to take the help of the local guides, trainers and others who are familiar with the risks and local conditions. Adventure sports like mountaineering, skiing, bungee jumping etc. all involve significant risks. Therefore it is very important to take help from experts and take all the precautionary measures before indulging in such sports especially away from home.
Plan a Budget:
Adventure sports can be a very expensive hobby. To avoid overspending one should plan out a budget for the whole trip including airfare, hotel, equipment, guide and other associated costs.
Choose a Good Travel Agency:
There are a number of travel sites specializing in adventure travel. Find the one offering the adventure sport you plan to indulge in. Check out reviews from others and once you narrow down on the final choices, ask the companies to provide a few references you can talk to.
