What does Flaring the thumb on a baseball mitt do?

I just got a new one and my friend said i should "flare" the thumb. Flare mens to take the thumb and bend it towards the outside of the glove. Does anyone know what purpose it serves?

It helps break in the mitt.

Better All Mountain Mitten?

Out of these two, which is the better all mountain glove in terms of waterproofness, warmth, durability, and closure.
They both have leather palms, so i don't know how well they will hold up, so thats why i need your help!

I actually have the 2nd one that you posted (the Oven Undermitt) and, honestly, it is the warmest thing that you have ever put your hand into. I don't even need a 'hot shot' or any other hot pack to go in there, they are so ridiculously warm. Heck, i don't even need to put them on the heater before i go out, you just gotta pop them on and your hands will be fine. Also if i'm not mistaken, they have an inner lining that can come out if you do get to hot. (that's just a maybe, i forget, i.e. there at my friends house and i can't remember. sorry)
But anyways, Im sure the other ones are warm as well, but just the Oven Undermitts are my pick.
