Why do divers dry themselves off?

Why do professional divers, or even people who are learning how to dive, spend a whole bunch of time on the board, drying themselves off with a little shammy, only to get wet again when they jump in? I have no idea because I've never dove (dived?) professionally.

Divers need to stay warm in order to maintain their flexibility. You should know that when you get wet, you feel the temperature difference a little more. Chances are that the divers are diving into a pool that is at a temperature that suits swimmers, which is much colder than a diver would prefer. Drying off will eliminate that factor.

Divers also spin in their dives and end up either holding onto their shins or legs. The better they can hold on, the faster they can spin. If their legs are wet, the chances of slipping when they go to grab their legs increases. This will cause the diver to wobble in their dive and they could get hurt.

Also, after a while of drying off using a shammy, it just becomes a habit or even a ritual they do before they dive. If you play sports, there might be some things you do before you perform.

Help with some nautical decorating ideas?

My boyfriend is a professional diver, so I thought it would be fun to do our bedroom in a nautical theme. I don't want anything cliche, like lighthouses and palm trees. I'm looking for something adult (no Finding Nemo this time) and colorful. We live in an apartment and aren't allowed to pain the walls.

Any suggestions, tips, or links would be great. Thanks in advance.
BTW I would like as many DIY ideas as possible. I really want to create a one-of-a-kind room.
My walls are white. Sorry, but I thought that was implied when I said I lived in an apartment and we can't paint the walls. I've never seen an apartments with colored walls.

It would help if you said what color the walls were. But I love the netting on the the wall with natural shells caught in it. Very classy. Also, the old copper oil lamps that they used to use on boats. See if you can find an old diving helmet, the brass ones. Get some hemp rope to use as a kind of makeshift valance across the top of windows. A classy brass anchor clock would look nice. And a coffee table book of old clipper ships is way cool. I collect nautical stuff and actually have an anchor tattoo, I am so in love with the theme. I have some lighthouse collectibles (I love those).
