Hanging a heavy punch bag (DIY help)?

Hi guys!
Okay I've got a heavy punch bag (22kg) I want to affix to my ceiling, I have bought a fairly heavy duty ceiling hook and a swivel. I have checked the floorboards in the room above where the punchbag is being hung and checked where the ceiling joists are and marked them on the ceiling downstairs.

The things I was wondering are about how wide I should drill the pilot holes for the screws. The screws appear to be about 8mm in diameter bolt-head screws.

Also how likely are there to be electric wires or anything else I would like to avoid in the ceiling? And how likely am I to avoid those by knowing I am drilling into the joist?

Well the only way to be absolutely certain is to cut out a piece of the sheetrock and look.However That being said.Your chances of hitting a wire are pretty small.Bc
A. If your house is a normal house There are not THAT many wires to hit & they will for the most part run alongside the joists Not thru them
B.provided the wires that are there and DO go thru are in the middle.Then your screw(unless its extremely long) will not reach them anyways.
Oh and the hole you drill should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the threaded part of the screw

Can I pack my luggage in a garbage bag?

I plan to check my two larger sleeping bags on a plane and would like them to go together, can i put them in a large heavy duty garbage bag? Otherwise what would be my best option?

I wouldn't use a garbage bag because they split and get ripped too easily ... you'd be far better off with a woven polypropylene bag ... where I live you can get zip-up bags made from woven polypropylene (they're usually a check pattern) that would hold your sleeping bags (and more) very cheaply ... they're sturdy and don't damage easily ... even cheaper if you find a woven polypropylene sack like on this web page and recycle it http://www.unitedbags.com/c-7-polypropylene-bags.aspx
